{"id":1250,"date":"2020-05-25T12:57:14","date_gmt":"2020-05-25T11:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.podularity.com\/thehedgehogandthefox\/?p=1250"},"modified":"2020-05-25T12:57:16","modified_gmt":"2020-05-25T11:57:16","slug":"stefan-van-der-stigchel-on-concentration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.podularity.com\/thehedgehogandthefox\/2020\/05\/25\/stefan-van-der-stigchel-on-concentration\/","title":{"rendered":"Stefan van der Stigchel on Concentration"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.acast.com\/5e957b9f339fe2a164bb4536\/episodes\/stefan-van-der-stigchel-on-concentration?theme=white&#038;cover=1&#038;latest=1\" frameBorder=\"0\" width=\"100%\" height=\"110px\" allow=\"autoplay\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>In this episode, the Hedgehog &amp; the Fox talk to Dutch psychologist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stefanvanderstigchel.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stefan van der Stigchel<\/a> about concentration, which he defines as \u2018the action of maintaining one\u2019s attention on a particular task for a certain period of time without becoming distracted\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s an activity that has become a whole lot harder in the past three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stefan\u2019s recent book from <a href=\"https:\/\/mitpress.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MIT Press<\/a> is called <em><a href=\"Concentration: Staying Focused in Times of Distraction\">Concentration: Staying Focused in Times of Distraction<\/a><\/em>, though I doubt he could have guessed when he wrote it just how distracting our times could become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read his book and you will have a much better understanding of how concentration works and why it\u2019s so hard to maintain \u2013 you\u2019ll also be aware that there are no quick fixes, no magic recipes for enhancing your concentration, but there are, as you\u2019ll hear, practical and effective things you can do to improve it.
